Monica Brinkman

Mosaic artist and cultural mediator

Mosaic and multidisciplinary artist Monica Brinkman was born in Ontario to a German immigrant father and an Acadian mother. Her artistic process began as a child by sewing patchwork quilts and collecting seashells and sea glass on the beach of her grandparent’s cottage in New Brunswick.

The primary source of inspiration for her contemporary “eco-responsible” mosaics is mostly based on social issues, her community and the environment. She uses a variety of both natural and man-made materials, which attract her attention by their beauty and originality. Monica has taken part in numerous group and solo exhibitions and has directed a host of community art projects and parades for more than 20 years.

Her dream is to one day visit Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, La Maison Picassiette in Chartres, France, and the Tarot Garden in Italy. When she’s not working on a project, she’s mentally preparing for the next one, photographing trees or spending hours collecting shells on the beach. To unwind, there’s nothing she enjoys more than going to the museum, the theatre or a concert.
